Decoupage Accent Cabinet

Decoupage Accent Cabinet

Colourful accent cabinet with two doors and a drawer. Without a doubt one of the most surprising pieces we have restored. The piece was originally covered with a dull brown paint. As often happens in these cases, we have removed small portions of patina and found out that there were very interesting colours underneath. We have then decided to scrape the whole piece until the final result. On top of that, we managed to bring back to light the ink of an old newspaper which is still visible on the top of the cabinet. The newspaper was probably forgotten there and because of the heat it the ink was absorbed by wood, creating an original decoupage effect.

The newspaper in question is the “Rabotnichesko Delo” (The Workers’ deed). It was founded in Sofia, Bulgaria, and after the coupe d’etat in 1934 it was obliged to publish clandestinely till 1944. This newspaper was the media organ of Bulgarian Communist Party and represented also the Bulgarian working class.
