Liberty Etagere

Liberty Etagere

A cadet blue etagere with round and curvilinear shapes typical of Liberty Style (Art Nouveau in France) of the beginning of 1900.

Art Nouveau (New Art) was an artistic-philosophical movement that was born in France at the end of the XIX century and developed in Europe in the beginning of the XX century under different names: in Italy, for example, Art Nouveau was known also as Liberty Style. The name Liberty comes from the shops founded in London in 1875 by A. Lasenby Liberty where many pieces of Art Nouveau from France were shown and sold.

The pieces of Art Nouveau (paintings, statues, furniture) are characterised by an accentuated elegance and sinuous shapes that weave harmoniously .

The shapes and colors of tis etagere perfectly reflects the standards  of this historical/cultural period as well as its lifestyle in which one can see himself in a French town between elegant ladies carrying delicate white umbrellas, men walking with their top hat and walking stick, balloon trips, exasperated romanticism and boundless faith in the progress. A muffled epoque where the most sensitive dreamt of travels and far worlds, distant in space and time.
