Stunning pair of XIX century terracotta vases manufactured in the area of Bari, Puglia. The peculiarity of these vases is the manticore heads to the front of the ceramics. The manticore is a legendary creature similar to the Egyptian sphinx that has the head of a human, the body of a lion and a tail of a scorpion. The first description of a manticore is given to us by Ctesia, a Greek traveler who lived bewteen the V and IV century BC.
